The Micronucleus Test in Urothelial Cells and Uterine Smears of Cervix Cancer Patients: A Comparison
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cytogenetic damage was assessed using the (MN) test in urothelial cells and cervix smears of local cervix cancer patients since the genetic end-point screening for micronuclei provides a measure of both, chromosome breakage and loss. The MN data were grouped for stage-types of cancer, age-groups, age-atmarriage, parity levels and socio-economic status. A comparison of the results obtained from both the tissues has revealed that the percent frequency of MNd cells was elevated in urothelial cells except when the variable for age-groups of the patients was compared. If validated, the MN assay in urothelial cells may prove useful for screening programmes for cervix cancer as besides scoring effectively for cytogenetic damage, it utilizes a non-invasive process of sample collection.

Background & Objectives: Tumor diathesis (TD) is defined as granular proteinaceous precipitates on slide surface of cytologic smears. It is found in the background of smears of invasive carcinoma but not in all cases. The aim of present study was to determine the prevalence of TD in cervicovaginal smears from patients with uterine cervix carcinoma. Methods: Cytological smears and histological ...

Background: Tumor diathesis (TD) refers to the granular proteinaceous precipitates on the slide surface of cytologic (Pap) smears. Found in the background of smears from some, but not all, invasive carcinoma cases, TD is present in the majority of smears from large cell nonkeratinizing carcinoma. It is more pronounced than keratinizing SCC also is almost always present in small cell carcinoma. ...

Background and Objective: Microscopic evaluation of cervicovaginal smears (Pap smear) plays an essential role in detection of preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions of uterine cervix. A wide spectrum of changes is seen in Pap smears. Interpretation of intermediate changes which resulting in observation of so- called ASCUS is difficult. ASCUS is defined as a cellular change that is more marked ...

Aim: Evaluation of the significance of micronuclei (MN) as biomarkers for evaluation the risk of malignant transformation in uterine cervix. MN are intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies from chromatin fragments or whole chromosomes. Their presence in cells is a reflection of chromosomal aberration during cellular mitosis. Patients and methods: MN screening was done in all selected cytopathological ...
